Wurth Orange Sealant
 

Anyone know of a good concoction for removing Wurth orange?
I had to take the cam towers off the heads on a 700 mile engine, and need to clean the old Wurth off. I'm trying to avoid stripping the heads down and hot tanking them. BTW, the heads are also off the engine.

Permatex make a gasket remover spray I have had great luck with it!!!!!!!!

If you look in the Factory manual is recommends a Loctite product - same part number as the Permatex product.
Works great but don't get it on anything painted like your engine stand. Don't ask me how I know...

First of all, what year/engine is this? Age/wear can depend on how easily this stuff comes off. Wurth stills make excellent products today. You should check their website and see all their products.

Erick, that Wurth stuff is pretty good. Their North American distributorship is actually in the next town over, so at least tech support is a local call.

It's a 78 3.0, with maybe 600-700 miles on a total rebuild.
The Permatex stuff works pretty well, but I still ended up taking the heads apart for cleaning and glass beading the sealing surfaces. The stuff was still orange, hasn't aged and heat cycled enough to turn black yet. Don't want to risk a leak, and I am NOT going to do this a third time. Changing the valve springs while I'm in there.
