Twin Spark Wire Routing for 911 3.2
I have converted my 3.2c to twin spark. Has anyone seen a quality spark plug wiring installation.
Im wondering if the plastic sparkplug lead cover from a 3.6ltr 964 would fit over the fan of a 3.2? Any photo's welcome!

Ask Henry at Supertec. He has some nice wire holders; very clean.

I was at Supertec recently and saw this 2.5 vintage race engine. Here is how they do the twin plug wires.

A dumb question - the tab on the head/end of the spark plug boot for the bottom plugs are GREAT idea!
What kind of plug ends are these? Where could I get them? thanks!

The tin is really to keep the exhaust heat from being recirculated back into the engine/intake. At 100MPH this really isn't an issue.

That makes sense, thanks Chris. Would certainly make access much simpler too.

Thanks for the pictures, I'll be twin plugging myself very soon. The cost of the wires is a heart stopper (~$650.00)

How about all the crap that will be flying around the engine bay? Heat from the headers? The tin acts as insulation.

No, I'm not kidding.
I see racecars running without tin all the time. I suppose it has the added benefit of keeping road debris out of the engine compartment... It doesn't take a thermal efficiency expert to know that when you're sitting there in traffic with 400 degree headers, sucking that air back through the fan and onto the heads isn't a good thing... As I said, on a racecar its fine, see it all the time.. street car? No way!

The spark plug routing grommets are bolted in to one of the side tin mounting holes.

The engine was built for a racing 914-6. No engine tin beyond what you see will be used.
If I'm not mistaken a great number of true racing Porsches were built and run without engine tin. 906, 935, 962, 956 just to name a few. Some experts believe that there were examples of the 911R delivered without surround tin. Even in the vintage world the truly serious cars tend to leave off the tin. Experts building real race cars work with different perameters than that of street cars. |
