Turbo 3.6 P&C's in a 964 motor?
Would 100mm turbo P&C's from the 3.6 Turbo 965 or 993TT slip right into a 964 motor, or are the heads different and would require machining to make them fit?
|
Certain year of 993TT engines have dished heads where part of piston goes into the head.
But if you only install the pistons and leave the rest as it is (=use 964 heads and cylinders) I believe it will work. |
Thanks, Goran. Finding 993TT pistons is like finding a pin in a hay stack :(
|
Simply machine the tops of the 964 pistons to make the compression you want for your turbo.
We have done it many times with excellent results. BTW: I think we have 100mm turbo pistons and cylinders for sale. |

But frankly, why don't you just buy a set of JE's? They are less than half price of new set of OEM 993TT's... Also, when running 993TT pistons in 3.6 with hot cams, you'll probably need to machine valve pockets on pistons somewhat deeper. |
Wyd- I have a new set of 993 TT pistons that are for sale-- very convenient to you!

Cool Henry. So Mahle doesn't have hollow domes? How thick are the top of the pistons after machining them? I know some aftermarket, different marque pistons follow the outside shape internally to some degree. Obviously not to closely with the 993's......handy.
|
It varies. We put a slight dome on the pistons for more compression and better flame propagation and that leaves the dome at around .300"+.
Cut them flat for 7.5:1 you get around .280". |
Resurrecting this thread from the dead.
Henry Is the .280" this new thickness of the piston crown? Any room for increasing valve pocket on the top of the piston? Thanks |

gotcha.
Thanks. |
Resurrecting this thread from the dead too.
Henry, what do you charge to machine 964 pistons down to 8.0:1 C/R? Also, what do you charge to have the set of 964 cylinders and heads flame ringed? |
I may already have a set of pistons to suit your needs sitting on the shelf at a reasonable price. give me a call on Tuesdays.
As for flame rings: ever since we started using Supertec head studs, we find that flame ring heads are unnecessary. |

The heads were torqued to 34 lb and upon regular freshen ups showed no sign a head movement or compression release. |
That's impressive! My motor is already running ARP fasteners.
The 3.6 question was related to another project I've got in mind :) Curious, how much does it typically cost to bore Nikasil jugs from 95mm to 98mm and replate? Is this something you also do? |
