Which Stud Replacement for chain covers

My engine had a large y shaped arm on the drivers side chain cover. Nothing was attached to it. This is a Euro car. Would this have been the air pump or an air pump put on when the car was federalized?

Anyway, I want the arm go as it just gets in the way and is ugly. From PET the studs are 8mm x 60. The standard cover studs are 6mm x 22. I do not see an alternate stud like a 8mm x 22. Closest I see in PET is 8mm x 35 (999.062.010.02)

Can I simply buy a generic 8x22 and stick it in there or should I go with the 8x35?

What do I use to plug the hole left by the stud indicated by the green line?

Best regards,

Michael

Yes.

I had this situation on my '76 and the best solution is to remove the nuts on the studs holding the pump support bracket to the cover and put a caliper gauge on there to see if it is an 8 or a 6. [or just check the nut / stud]. If it is a 6 ... order similar lengths of 22mm as the other chain box studs [eyeball the boss on the cover to make sure it is the same thickness as where the other 6 mm studs poke through]. If it is an 8 then you need to source the 8 X 22. Perhaps McMastercarr.com if PP doesn't have.

My temp solution ... I slipped some nuts and washers over the exposed stud [after removing bracket] and torqued to spec. :) Not pretty but low $, it works and was a temp solution that I still have to get back to ... a year + later :)

*Keep the air pump, bracket, air injectors, air injector rail, etc... if your state requires these be in place when transfering title / new inspection... should you sell.

Thanks Jason! No rules here in FL :)

They are 8mm for sure. I expect I can find a suitable 8x22ish stud in the PET and then order it. if not, I'll check my local metric supply place and then I guess McM. or MSC for suitable HW.

Still, what sis you do with the middle on that seems to be in the center of the cover?

Best regards,

Michael
