3.2 to 3.6?

Ok..

Help me out here guys.. I'm curious.

I have this friend in his quest for "secret" hp decided not to bounce his ideas off me before spending the money. Now hey, I'm know self professed guru or any of that..but I've been around this stuff for awhile.. and I think I would have advised to do things differently.

My advice was lets start with a 3.6 and move forward from there, instead he went as outlined below..and prefers not to discuss with me.

His quest was to get 300+ hp

Here we go...

85 euro 3.2 (230 hp) eng, that needed a valve job...

- Sent heads and case to (yikes) Motormiester
- had multi angle valve job done, flycut and P & P,
- had heads & case opened up for 3.6 barrels
Other than that have know idea what other machine work they did

Between EBS and Motormiester they supplied..

- 3.6 P/Cs pistons are JE, I have know idea what the jugs are but I do know they are not Mahle or Nickies

- was told that he will use Motormiester's "stage 2" cams (whatever that is..have seen no specs)

He has said nothing about mods to the Euro DME and is running the stock Carreera intake w/a cone filter.

- Has full B&B exhaust....

Your thoughts and comments are welcomed.

Lets see, to make a 3.2 into a 3.6 you can either go with a 964/993 crank and 100mm pistons and cylinders or stay with the stock 74.4 3.2 crank and use really big custom pistons and cylinders. At the mention of Motormeister a song comes into my head and it goes a little something like,

and I ran, I ran so far away, and I ran, bla bla bla bla bla, couldnt get away.

You've made a good case for proving your friend is an idiot.

First off MM is an engine builder not a machine shop. Your friend shipped his stuff across the country so they could take it to their lowball machine shop and take a cut.

Second, I don't think you can get 300HP with a stock Carrera intake unless a turbo is used.

More than likely he's after torque anyway and hopefully will be happy with the results. If the motor was for racing, which it probably isn't, he could have achieved 300HP and easily stayed at 3.2L. It's all about flow for horsepower. Big ports, aggresive cams, with pistons and carbs to match would have achieved 300HP well within 3.2 liters. The 2.8L RSR motor put out 308HP.

P.S. If the car is for street use and he really wants low end torque then the Carrera intake will work well for him.
