Need Help! - Why does 911 have to be started up within 5 day period?

I have run into the problem that the dealership told me that i have to turn on the vehicle every 5 days or else the vehicle goes into a "lock mode" in which i have to take the 911 to the dealership.

Is there anyway to overcome this obstacle besides turning on the vehicle every 5 days? any help is greatly appreciated!

can the dealership change this setting ?

You have to be frickn' kidding me... I would take the car back to the dealership and tell them to remove this 'feature' or refund me all my $$ + 10% for wasting my time. I have never heard of anything so absurd in my life (concerning auto sales and theft deterrent anyway). If the dealership will not, call PCNA ASAP and get on their buts. Did you read the manual and look for a way you can control this benefit?

Are you sure it is not some aftermarket gizmo added on the car?

Best regards,

Michael

What year 911 is this? I've never heard of such a thing as "lock mode." Who is the dealer?

"Porsche did a psychological study and found that at 4.5 days the typical P-Car owner would begin to experience separation anxiety if the driver and vehicle did not meld within the factory preset time frame. The central locking system was updated to include a "5th day spanking feature" to provide the PO behavioral modification by a "no start condition" causing panic and guilt to set in."

At least it sounded good............

I have never heard of the 5th day lock mode. I think the dealer is on glue. Even parasitic draw on the battery wont kill it in 5 days but if voltage gets low for whatever reason funny things start to happen.

And on the 5th day....
God locked the doors....
And said it was good....

Hey my 997 has this same feature but it is invisible to you and I. Basically its to keep battery power from draining as it has many systems that are always kept juiced. It has an internal clock and after a while various things get shut down. Its no problem though. I think the worst that happens, and this is after the clock counts a couple weeks, is that it prevents you from entering via keyless remote, you must use your key on the door. This is also a theft deterrent feature. Don't worry about it.

This is just the remote keyless entry function that shuts down to conserve battery power. But there is no reason to take the car back to the dealer. All you need to do is to unlock it with the key the old fashioned way.

In any case, make sure to maintain your battery if you don't drive the car for longer periods. These newer 911 can drain a perfectly charged battery in a couple of weeks. Ask me how I know....and I had to replace the battery since it wouldn't hold a charge after being deep-cycled.
