Looking to buy a 3.0 sc motor

Looking to buy a 3.0 sc motor for my 74, what type of motor should I go for pre 78 or 78- 82, running preferably but aim is to rebuild a long block would be OK as I have webbers exhaust etc..

78-79 have better (larger diameter) heads and wider intakes, but compression only at 8.5:1. '80-'83 have smaller diameter heads and intakes, but higher compression (8.6:1 for the '80, and 9.3:1 for the '81-'83). The '83 has a different and possibly more robust block, which was the basis for the 3.2, IIRC.

Both variants of the 3.0 are very good engines. Either should work well with Webers.
