Is this crank reusable? *Pics*
I took off the rods tonight and found this on the crank (fourth journal down). doesn't seem too deep but it is definitely scratched. what can I do here?

Turn it down and put in a bigger bearing? Pure speculation.
What did the bearing look like? |
What is the depth of the gouge? Looks pretty ugly but sometimes looks can be deceiving. Call a porsche only machine shop and get their input on the situation. Are all the journals in round, what are their specs, how deep is that gouge will be the sort of info you need to give them. Do not fret until a porsche only machinist tells you otherwise.
From the looks of things it appears to be mainly the coating and a mil or two of material. |
I spoke with Troy Chapman at EBS Racing today. He seemed to think he could polish it out depending on depth (I have no tools to measure). I would just hate to ship that heavy beast 3/4th the way accross the continent just to find out it is useless. Oh well, more P-tax for me, but my baby is worth it!
Thanks for your input guys! |
John,
I sent my crank to EBS and they sent it to a company in California. They did a great job. My number five journal was in a bad shape. Rick |
Thanks for the vote of confidence Rick. The reason I sent my stuff to EBS was b/c people like you that backed them up. Reno is not far from Cali at all so I have no problem with them shipping it out. I just miss driving my P-car in weather like we are having right now, Its torture!!
