2.2T rebuilt w/S pistons, 2.4L Crank,& Problems!!
A friend, at my suggestion, is rebuilding a 2.2T with the longer stroke and higher compression piston. On the surface all seems well but as he put the pistons on the rods it has become apparent that there is a clearance issue when you rotate the crank the piston bottom juuuuussst bottoms out on the case by the piston squirters ect. I've also noticed that there is a 1-2mm rim around the bottom of the piston that looks ripe for the machining (off)!!. Lets have some suggestions fellas cuz we need help and the case is all sealed up, would prefer not to go in there again.

Both these guys should take the cases back apart and have them properly machined.
They can use this opportunity to add piston squirters and possibly some other updates. I am surprised to see two identical problems. While this issue isn’t identified exactly by either Wayne’s engine book or BA, Bruce points it out when discussing using 92 mm P&Cs. Anyone building one of these engines, particularly when stirring around the parts, should dwell on EVERY WORD in these books and on the forums. The good news is these engines weren’t run with the pistons touching the case at BDC. Best, Grady |
