Double check how they report it. In the US they average the two numbers, RON and ROZ. I forget which one is higher, but just make sure you get advice based on an apples to apples comparison.

Matty,

In Australia the quoted octane at the pump is the RON (Research Octane Number).

Our American friends have their fuel quoted with what we call the AKI (Anti Knock Index).

That is (RON + MON)/2

Normal MON (Motor Octane Number) is around the 88 mark.

matty,

the row cars have 10.3:1 compression and recommend 98 ron in the owners manual. I would have thought this is as much as you want to go in the compression department.
