Broken exaust studds

Hi all, I have a friend that has an 84 3.2 that was rebuilt by the
dealer ( don't laugh) 25k ago now it has at-least 2 broken stud's
they wont warranty it and want 6k to fix it. I don't have time to
do the job myself but I could remove the engine and ship it
to some one. What should this cost? and is there any body
interested in doing it. Thanks Palmer

How do exhaust studs break? Unless you are trying to chaneg the HE's.

If they are just exhaust studs they can be drilled out and replaced. It's not a fun job, but doable with the engine in the car. Search the board for A Quiet Boom who makes a jig for the job, cost around $150.

If you're talking about lower head studs $6,000 makes sense for dealer pricing.
If you can take it out and ship it, I would highly recommend Supertec Performance. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/supertecperformance.com
Henry posts advise on this board and has a great reputation.
They built my engine and I couldn't be happier. Pricing, performance and delivery time were all exceptional.
Do a search on this board and you'll see for yourself.

i get $2500 to replace all 12 lower dilivar studs with steel. $6K seems a bit steep. should be a shop in your area that can do it for that.

Hey Palmer,

Would you happen to have a picture? I have oil leaking under the engine and I am trying to figure out where it is coming from. It is not the oil return tubes, but seems to be coming from the case bolts above the engine tin. The engine tin on the passenger side is dry, the engine tin on the driver's side is wet and oozes down the case past the oil return tubes. Forgive me for jumping onto your thread. Please God in heaven don't let this be a $6k repair.

Is your friend's car leaking oil?

I dont have a picture of it when the owner brings it over I will get some pictures. As for shops in the Mass area I deal with some race shops
but most of those guys are not very economical for a stock 3.2 repair
Thanks PALMER
