3.2 conversion from US to Euro speccs
what does it take to convert a 3.2 from us to euro specs? i am looking for the different parts and setups that make the difference between them.
thanks |
I believe the main difference between the US spec and Euro Spec was that the euro spec engine had a higher compression ratio like 10.5:1. So you would need to upgrade to euro spec pistons and cylinders.
Aside from that I think they had a premuffler instead of a catalytic converter. I'm not quite as certain about this though. Might need a different chip as well. Rich |
Yes DME unit is different aswell, the euro one has no circuitry for the o2 sensor input. That said, I wonder if you could use a euro chip in a us dme and it will just ignore the o2 circuit, would need an expert's opinion on that one. Hmmmmm.

I have 3.2 euro pistons and barrels for sale if you are interested, they have done 67k miles.

The EU version has different P&C's; these you can swap.
Furthermore EU engines were delivered "with CAT", "without CAT but with all provisions in the DME for a CAT (later 3.2-s)" or "without CAT and without provisions in the DME for one (earlier 3.2-s)". Having either one of the latter two in EU determines how easy it is (or not...) to install a CAT afterwards. So, if you have a US 3.2 with a CAT, you can change P&C's and I would assume change the chip for a EU one for the CAT version we have here too. |
You could install a euro chip in a US dme and it would ignore the O2 circuit, effectively functioning like a Euro DME setup. Replace the cat with a euro premuffler, and change the pistons to euro pistons, and you effectively have a Euro spec setup.
