Pauter Rods - Narrow Small End?
I have a set of Pauter rods (for 3.2/3.3/3.6) here with narrow small ends.
Small end width is 0.770 (normal is around 0.900?) Part ID 964-230-580-1270F (length 5.00) Does anyone see a problem here and what would be the reason for a narrow small end? Would like to use them with JE's in a big HP Turbo? Thanks. Tom

Hi Tom:
Those might have been made for the latest box-type pistons from JE, CP, or others. You could use them in your JE's with spacers but I'd probably use them in a purpose-built piston made specifically for those rods.

Steve,
Why do you need to take up the space? The pistons are contained in the cylinders and the rods can't move because the crank journals contain them. Stock pistons and rods have a couple of mm space in there why is more a problem? -Andy

Hello all.
i think what Steve is referring to is a piston-centred rod: the rod can flaot free on the crankpin, ..this ensures the small end is always central on the piston pin, while the rod needs some freedom on the crankpin. The advantages seem to include reduced friction with the flank of the rod on the journal.. Kind regards David |
