Where do these parts belong?
Ok, I have finished re-assembling my '82SC engine. Looks like a new penny. Only a couple parts left over that I can't figure out where they belong (see picture below). The black piece was not originally black - I sandblasted/painted it. The nut actually has a shoulder that fits inside the hole in black bracket it is next to. The black bracket and nut were in a bag labeled "Cam chain covers." I've reviewed my pre-disassembly pictures and can't find this part anywhere. By its girth, it looks like a rather important bracket for something.
The smaller bracket with some rust on it was not in a bag, but I found it on my workbench - I'm pretty sure it belongs on the engine - perhaps a cam chain tensioner oil line bracket? I'm just waiting for some heater hoses and a test pipe and it will be finished and I'll post pictures. possibly bracket for AC compressor?
|
The nut and bracket mount to the right of and down from the fan at the oil pressure sender location. The bracket supports the A/C. The oill pressure sender screws into the nut.
Don't know abut the twisted bracket. |
The twisted bracket goes in the trans... It holds the reverse light switch wires tght against the trans case... Lou

Excellent! You guys are great. Thanks.

The oil sender does not screw into the nut; the shouldered nut was made to utilize an existing chain housing mounting stud to also mount the black A/C bracket support strut shown. By the way, the shouldered nut if purchased new from Porsche costs about $25.

Right, I see how it goes now. The shouldered nut screws into the top stud on the RHS chain housing. The bracket goes from there to the AC brace.

I thought I had it, but it doesn't seem to fit there. Here's a picture. You can see that there's a ~1/4" gap b/w this strut and the AC mount, and the hole in the brace doesn't line up exactly with the hole in the AC mount. I'm going to check that I have the AC mount on correctly and try it again.

Loosened up all the AC bracket bolts and rejiggered it a bit and the strut bracket lines up fine now.
