Intake Barrel Nut Question, Do I have to use this type?
Hi everyone,
I have a 3.2L Carrera that is nearly finished but I was wondering if I could substitute the hex barrel nuts that hold my intake manifold with some metric nylock nuts (grade 8.8) or better? Does the barrel nut serve any other purpose? Thanks for your input. Best Regards, Alex

You are talking about 901 111 271 00?
Usually when the factory specifies a barrel nut instead of a hexagon nut, it's because you can't swing a wrench, e.g. head studs, chain boxes, heat exchangers. I would imagine that to be the case here.

Yes, I was referring to that part number, 901 111 271 00. I lost six of these during my move.
Thanks John. Alex

i think you could try jet nuts (pegasus carries them) smaller heads than standard nuts. ...I'm going to use them on cam towers where the barrel nuts are.
