Some pictures of the new 2.5L race motor

Alan Faragallah (Aase Motors) is doing some more magic on my new #2 2.5L. This one will be a little different from my current #1 2.5L (almost 80 hours now and running perfect).
#2 will have a T-crank, Pauter Rods, bigger intake valves. I cant wait to turn this motor over.

Here are some pics of the build.

Wow congrats, tell us more about that engine!

kaisen 06-06-2007 02:18 PM

Okay, I get who's Chad, but who's D.J. Asse?

126coupe 06-06-2007 03:11 PM

Chad,

Are the larger intakes R&D or proven to help?

Plavan 06-06-2007 03:52 PM

I think they meant D.J. at Aase... for polishing/ mag the crank....

Minkoff- They have tried it on one other motor... Now it is my turn :) They were worried about clearance issues with the cam but figured it out. Mine is a little different from the other they built. I think both Randy Aase and Alan came up with the idea. I will dyno when we put it in.

Are you running the new engine at CA Speed?

Plavan 06-07-2007 06:33 AM

No. Shooting for Sept. in Buttonwillow.

Plavan 06-17-2008 07:02 AM

Almost done! Zoooom, Zooom

Nice!!!

Looks like the all of the cylinder air deflectors and right-side oil return tubes haven't been installed yet. :) :)

Plavan 06-17-2008 08:35 AM

I decided not to run oil cuz it is too expensive :)

Yep- Just piston/valve cam clearance test... it passed :)

Peanut oil is the answer,.....doesn't smoke til almost 500 degrees and it smells great,.......:) :)

These just in. Just needs shroud, oil cooler, late T-stat, and some oil lines.... all done :)

Yum yum.

Jeff Erickson and Allan Faragallah-Aase Motors have been producing high horsepower but reliable engines for racecars for years it is nice to see their customers brag on them a bit.
Both are very Humble and probably let the record of SCCA and Porsche club as well as IMSA victories do the talking, I think its great when someone calls a little attention for the lads in West Fullerton.

Chad,

Awesome, beautiful work.

Those are some big barrels!

What is the story with the later thermostat?

Also it looks like a later intermediate shaft cover plate, I assume the case was machined for the later shaft!

Can't wait to see (and hear) the numbers.

Nice!

Plavan 08-19-2008 05:40 PM

John- We had the case machined so you can use the later T-stat. The later ones are alot cheaper and easier to find, probably more reliable too.
Yes- it has the later intermediate shaft and machining work- nice eyes. Not that anything is wrong with the early shaft.
Did you notice the shuffle pinning?..... That was kinda a mistake on this aluminum case, but I guess it will not hurt :p
I can't wait till it spins to 8k RPM :) . With Pauter rods and a 911 T crank..... it will scream.

Aase guys are meticulous!

My current 2.5L will be rebuilt- with twin plug this time :)

It's really nice to see the names of the responsible parties on the various pieces, total accountability. A former co-worker once worked at a place that built special engines. He etched his signature on the top of the case of every engine that he built. They asked him to stop doing that and he refused. It was a big deal. He stood his ground and kept signing every engine and they gave in eventually. They could see the pride involved.

Chad,
I totally agree with all of the other congrats... a top notch shop and job here.

A quick question, do I see you will be using the cam oil line restrictors to bump up oil pressure ??

Also, can you clue us in on the cam specs & valve sizes and I presume a 66mm crank ?? Any idea on the hp at what rpm ??

Thank you in advance and appreciate your sharing this engine magic with us.

Bob

Thanks Bob. I can take those engines apart no problem, I just do not trust myself putting them back together :) You can see their attention to detail all over that motor. If I built it (and it actually ran) it would never be that clean.

Yes, it will have the oil restrictors.
The specs are the same as my current 2.5L motor except for the "T" 66mm crank, DC60 cams, and 993 intake valves http://forums.pelicanparts.com/suppo...amingdevil.gif
I'm guessing it will have a little more low end torque than the GE80 cams on my #1 motor. We had to use the DC60 cams for proper valve clearance.

This motor should put out more HP than my current motor.
Here is the dyno sheet from my current 2.5L motor (#1).
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1219241173.jpg

I will dyno #2 once I get it in the car and break it in.
