What can I use to plug the polution holes on my heads?

I have had a 3.0 litre 78 sc motor rebuilt without the polution gear.

The heads have holes next to the exhaust ports and I need them pluged.

What is the best way to plug these holes?

cheers

Matt

I think I used Mercedes plugs... like tranny plugs... You can use set screws or regular machine screws. I think I used the copper never seize on them and they never fell out. Iactually think I bought them here.... lets see... searching we find:

Hunh... 914 rear caliper thingamajiggers it seems... or your best ACE or Lowes 10.0 x 1.0 plugs work.

Matt,
Those are the correct items. The thread is a bit strange and given the cost of heads and downtime I'd spend the money on the right items. They come with a copper washer and should stay for good. I had some other ones in my race motor and had one fall out.

The holes are fine thread and you can use the screw in plugs. I'm in the process of doing the same thing on my 2.0 914 engine. Those are deeper in and I got some fine tread bolts. Just make sure you don't thread them in too far. A nut can be used for a distance stop on them.

Weltmeister has a kit for this now. I don't see it on PP web site but they can probably get it for you.

How about retapping the holes and fitting either exhaust temperature probes?

Dennis
