Remove all rockers to set cam timing?

Do I need to remove all rockers (both intake and exhaust) when I set cam timing for a 993 with hydraulic lifters? I read some discussions on setting cam timing without removing the exhaust valve cover. A bit confused.

Will the hydraulic lifters be SHORT enough to allow the valves to clear the cylinders when the cam is not rotating along with crank?

The step that "remove sprocket pin and rotate crank to TDC after setting lift at 1.2mm" would bend either #2, 3, 4, or 5 valves if their rockers were not removed, wouldn't it?

The rocker for setting cam is mechanical of course.

993s require a set of timing tools that lock the cams and crank in position. other tools replace the tensioners to hold the chains tight. then you just tighten the bolts. you don't use a dial gauge like on the older engines. baum tools. git yer wallet out.

Hope that works.

Well, earlier 993 has the 964 sprocket with pin timing. I am planning to backdate the sprocket, so I can set the timing from the front. Using the factory tools would require removing a lot more stuff as I was told.

Could I leave other hydraulic rockers in while I am working on #1 and #4 intake rockers? TIA
