HELP! How to remove 964 Engine from tranny

Is there a trick to this? How do I get the clutch fork to release?

you attach a slide hammer with a 8mm stud in it to the cross-shaft and GENTLY tap it out. spray penetrant in there if it resists much. if you get too rough, there's a chance the shaft support ears can break off, and then you have lots more work.

Are you talking about tapping the pin of the clutch fork out? From the open side? Why do you need the 8mm stud? I see that it's threaded in there.

that's right. the stud is on the slide hammer and you thread it into the shaft.

to add to my last post, once the slide hammer with a homemade, 8mm stud or bolt is threaded into the shaft/pin, then you pull it out of the open side, by gently knocking the slide hammer in the direction required to pull the shaft/pin out. be gentle and have patience because they can be quite stuck at times. you do not want to break off the ears that the shaft goes through.

Just to help clarify- you PULL it out, using the 8mm bolt so that you have something to grab. That's why they threaded it, so that you'd have a way to pull on it.

I got it. Thanks!
