Oil seepage on 3 cylinders...

Well, it was bound to happen. My nice, dry - as in leak free - Kremer 3.2 finally started leaking a bit of oil, unfortunately in a place I really am uncomfortable with....

The leaks are in 3 cylinders (2,3 and 5), right at the head/cylinder junction. Not much, just a seep, maybe 10 drops max....but some.

I have never retorqued the head studs ever, Kremer put about 1000 km on the engine before they handed it over to me and they supposedly did everything necessary.

I checked the threads on this forum, there is some thought about retightening the head studs - think I should in this case?

One little thing...I was told the studs were dilavar when I picked up the engine, but the part number I find on the Kremer build sheet - 930 101 170 02 - is not in PET and it does not match the Porsche stud numbers I can find for Dilavar studs....

Thanks for any help...

Dennis

Hmm.. I see 930 101 170 02S, Engine Case Stud as a steel stud. (note the "s" on the end though...)

I also see that it has been superseded by 993 101 170 51 which is the fully threaded 993 steel stud.

I would retorque the headstuds. You really don't have much to lose by trying.

Chris, what model year did you find the part number in? My PET didn't have it in any of the Euro cars (I assume Kremer would have used European parts) for the '78 through '89 Carrera's and Turbo's....

Reason why I want to know is that the local Porsche dealer is quite helpful and they may be able to find out if the "s" is relevant...

Andy, I think your thoughts are right, just those studs have been in there since 1989 and I would hate to upset them unless there was potential for it being a repair.....thanks...

Thanks

Dennis

Dennis,

I'm not sure, I entered the part number into one of my parts suppliers systems and that's what it came up with. I'll see if I can find an applications cross-reference tomorrow. However I know the 94 turbo has them as I have one apart in the shop with those studs in it.
