Attending Bruce Anderson's Engine Rebuild School

I am sorry to be so clumsy with my search but perhaps someone can help me. I am considering attending the Bruce Anderson School on 911 Engine Rebuild and I remember that Wayne attended the school and posted an article. I can't find it in the forum. Can anyone remember the title so that I can find it and read it. Thanks
John

John,

You can't find anything better in the entire Porsche world than Bruce's and Jerry's program. I haven't (yet) attended but I have known these guys fot almost 35 years. There is no one better skilled about Posche. Even the Factory doesn't have that information.

Best,
Grady

Edit for spelling

I really want to go sometime too. I want to stay for the engine class, and all the others that are given at that time too.

keep us posted on your opinions. I know I have heard a couple people that have gone enjoyed it.

Thanks Rich, that is what I was looking for. Wayne also posted nice pictures from the class.

I have decided to attend and will write a post when I return.

I attended a year ago and thoroughly enjoyed it. I think your experience will depend, a lot, on the rest of the group that signs-up with you. Jerry likes to cover a certain amount of material per day. I stayed on for the tune-up class, as there was only two others signed-up. It was a great opportunity to talk to Jerry one on one. The class-room wasn't exactly plush, but it works, and lunch was terrific. Bruce kind of fills-in with slides, and a wealth of developmental knowledge. It's the kind of class you could go back and take over and over, and learn something new each time. I think you'll enjoy it.

If I don't start getting my engine together in the next couple of months, I may just wait and attend in December, if I can swing it in my schedule.

Been thinking about attending. What kind of hand-outs does he provide?

shbop 08-01-2007 06:57 AM

The handout is the same as Bruce's book. If you have the "Performance Handbook", and read the chapter called: Engine Rebuild Fundamentals, you've pretty much got the hand out. What you don't have is all the notes you'll take while our there.

A hands on demo, or live demo is part of the deal too, isn't it?

shbop 08-01-2007 08:07 AM

Yes absolutely. The class will go through re-building a motor with Jerry and Bruce. Jerry handles the re-build while Bruce fills-in with slide shows and tons of information about development and personal experience. There was also a table of parts from many different engines. Heads, cylinders, fuel pumps, oil coolers, you name it. The class I attended was also given the opportunity to go through Jerry's shop, which is next door.

I took the class years ago (2001) and it has served me in very good stead. I entered the class as an avid enthusiast of 911's and had owned a 74 911S for several years. However, before the class I knew very little about the mechanicals of the car. Since then, I have owned an 86 911, 1982 930, and a 70 911T, all of which I do my own work and maintainence on. After taking the class, I had plenty of confidence to pull engines/trannies, do valve adjustments, clutch replacements, replace tensioners, etc, etc, etc. The only problem with all of this has been my increased obsession with these cars, now to the point that I own 2 of them and recently bought a 4 post hydraulic lift for my garage! My wife is less than thrilled, but what the heck.......! Anyways, if you are even a little mechanically inclined and have the desire to learn, the class is awesome. I took both the r/b course and the tune up course. Hope this helps-
