I am about to purchase a 911 1974 2.7 and acording to the owner it have a broken stud.
I am certanly new with the 911 and I went to see this car and also drove it and I din't feel any diference. dont know where to start. do I am going to hear a cick or tic? loose compresion ? something in particular that I need to look or listening to it? thank you Ivan |
If one is broken there are more waiting in line behind it usually. You'll want ot budget for a top-end if/when it gets worse. Usually what you'll hear is similar to an exhaust leak. A "tick/Chuff" type sounds.
I'd just be sure you know what you're getting into. Sometimes these engines will go for years with 2 or more broken studs, others will develop oil-leaks and start leaking combustion in a few months. |

thank you much,
how about to change that eng. to a 3.0 liter? it will be better or just a top end rebuilt will do it? also I heard that a eleven fan blade will be better again thak's for the your time and advice VR Ivan |
I own a mag case eng.....nothing wrong with them once they are done right...not to scare you, but to prepare you ok?? faults-up dates have not been done and you do not do much of the work $$$$$$$$will be a a bunch, how ever with the help of this board and a bit of courage ( if some skill is supplied)you can over come Line bore, straighten case, oil up date, perhaps shufle pin,new studs and inserts. ect

Welcome to the board.
Broken studs on a 2.7 are rare. More likely it has a head stud pulling from the case. This means a complete disassembly is in the near future. Budget an overhaul in you plans and see if the purchase makes sense. 3.0 transplants are easy but finding a good one will be the challenge. |
Let me guess, the car seems like a "deal" right?
PASS on the car if you haven't already purchased it. Once you figure in the price of rebuilding the motor you could have a nice SC or Carrera. Just the machining for the 2.7 case properly is $1000 before you buy any parts. -Chris |
I just got a 78 3.0 SC and i know as i read know it has that broken stud problem...but now is smoking and leaking...
So be aware of what you are buying... Best Mick |
