Do i have to get my distributor recurved ?
Hi,
Iīm going to put carbs on my 911 3,0-79 and my question is, do i have to get my distributor recurved ? I read in Bruce Anderson's "Porsche 911 Performance Handbook" ( page 144 ) that it wasn't necessary in a 1979 SC ? To begin i will start with original distributor (but i believe that it is a weak link ). My first choice would have bin a 12 plug distributor but i havenīt found any ( send a mail if you now anyone for a reasonable price), I might go for programmable direct-fire-ignition later on (if i donīt find a 12 plug distributor ). If you were to run with a single plug you could use your old SC dizzy as is. The advance is enough although to get optimum performance you should have it recurved. I'm still running the stock advance curve on my carbed SC motor. I find that with the idle advance at 5 degrees BTDC I get about 30 degrees total advance at 6000 RPM.

Your other option is a crank-fire kit, like the XDI. Adjustable timing, easy to set-up.
