More cam than DC 20 cams with CIS
Last year my euro 204 bhp 3.0 motor was rebult with some DC 20 (super C2) cams. Along with a few other changes, the motor made great power whilst still keeping the CIS.
My car is mainly used for DE days, so with peak power being produced at 6500rpm, made for a great compromise engine on the track, whilst still avoiding that high costs of carbs or EFI. The car behaves normally on the road with just a slightly higher idle but no lumpness at all which I put down to the small port heads keeping the gas velocities nice and high. However the motor is having to be rebuilt unexpectedly due to a cam chain tensioner failure and the pistons need to be replaced. So I'm thinking of adding the Mahle motorsport 3.2ss set to replace the old 9.8:1 CIS ones. I'm reckoning that adding the 3.2 p&c's will drop the rpm at which peak power is made. But I really want to maintain peak power at about 6500rpm, so I'm thinking of adding a bit more cam. So has anyone experienced running a hoter cam than DC20 with CIS, I'm assuming that the small ports combined with the 3.2 P&C's will allow a bit more cam without ruining the idle. |
