Interesting Oil Filter. Anyone using this?
http://www.trasko-usa.com/
I haven't seen one in person, but the premise looks sound. Looks like it is a full-flow and bypass filter, all in one. They specifically have the Porsche one listed, but I've never seen or heard of this company or anyone using these filters. Any thoughts? |
I looked into that filter awhile back. Since I was totally re-plumbing my oil system I decided to use a Canton remote filter. What really drove my decison to use the canton over the Trasko is that Canton has been around forever and replacement elements are easy to come by. Trasko was just a teeny add in the back of GRM

It has been a filter kind of day. What started my search is that I want to test Pareto Point Industries MagDog bypass filter:
http://paretopoint.com/magdog.php Being my car has a/c, it doesn't quite clear with the stock filter. After a trip to Napa, I found a cross for the Porsche filter, but shorter by the exact amount as the thickness of the MagDog, Napa 1206, which happens to cross with a Komatsu Excavator :-) It's absolutely overkill in construction with nominal micron rating like the stock filter. It even weighs more than the longer Mann filter I have. Does anyone have another cross for a filter that has the right 1-12 threads, but about 1.5-2" shorter for a 964? |
I forgot the overall height of a 964 filter. but a quick search on Cantons site shows a 4-1/4" tall filter with 1-12 threads and a replaceable 8 micron cartridge.

This one is a cool idea, if it works as well as advertised. |
I took some pictures of the magdog and the installation process. With the shorter Napa 1206 filter, it went just fine. I think the canton filter will also fit - I plan on purchasing one to try. I might also order the trasko just to evaluate it.

I think weltmeister is selling something just like the magdog.
|
The MagDog is the same thing as the Weltmeister product; Pareto Point makes them for Performance Products.
