Porsche Crest Cam Timing and Marks

According to the Porsche 911 Workshop Manual (under cam timing basic settings), you should set both cam punch marks facing up and cylinder 1 to TDC at Z1 on pulley. However, on my 1980 3.0L, only one of my cams has a punch mark. what do I do????

and
no punch mark

can you still see the "930" punched into that cam or is it too scratched up? the 930 needs to be facing upwards just like the punch mark

Not sure if I cam still see the 930 mark. What about the cam lobes? Do they align somehow with the 930 and punch marks?

Cams

Just use the key way groove as the indication for the punch mark location

Same lobbed on right cam..

As long as you can read it right side up your good.. There really is no exact posistion to install besides right side up.. I always install left cam first. Do intake rocker only on #1, set your cam timing, rotate 360 and double check then do #4 rocker intake only.. Limits your risk of bending something if it is new knowledge to you..

As Mike said, the woodruff key position should be UP on both...

Thanks Guys,

I will set the "woodruff keys" up and set timing on cylinder #1 first then #4.

Thanks again for your help.

If you really want to sleep well, Dan, have a pro wrench check your timing. I did and slept great.

Seriously, I felt I had too much time and money invested to not insure this part of the assembly was correct.
