Intake rocker cover leak
Have a oil leak at the bottom of the cover, flywheel end . It has a depression i measured at .020 Is this something i can sand flat using the plate glass method or should it be machined flat or just replaced Thanks in advance for any opinions.

interesting how a depression would get there.....probably just replace... 0.020" is quite a bit, might work by sanding flat 1/2 of it and using silicon gaskets.. or just using the silicon gaskets...be careful not to overtighten.
that's my 2 cents - I've not had this problem. I've used the silicon and stock type gaskets with success. |

I would think that for the time and effort to get a 20 thou depression out, I would get a new or used straight cover....
cheers

New/used cover will be easiest. The big squishy silicon gaskets will probably seal it as well.

Thanks for the responses Bit the bullet and bought a used aluminum cover (not cheap!!)to replace this tweaked mag cover . Aluminum seems to be a much better cover than the mag.
Thanks again |

What you should really look at is HOW that depression got there in the first place. Check both cam towers in the lower corner, make sure some monkey PO didn't use a screwdriver to pop the valve cover off!

John
Cam towers look good all around. It looks like the PO took a belt sander to the covers and it got away from him in that corner. Always had a small leak in that area for the last 5yrs, did not notice it at valve adjust time and always thought it was the lower cover. Did see it when the engine was out and tilted on the stand. cheers |
