90 C2 head gasket options

hello all,
i've just torn my motor down and discovered that my car did not have the head/piston seal update. i thought it might have had it because it did not leak at all there.
so now i need to decide what to do about it. i read somewhere around here that someone machined a groove in the cylinders to accept a sealing ring and many miles later no issues. is this a good option?
from initial inspection my p/c's look to be in great shape. the thought of spending a couple grand on new p/c's just doesn't settle well but you gotta do what you gotta do, right?
someone please give me some good news.

Yes, provided your cylinders are in spec, you can send them to Rennsport Systems and have the machining done. I have used this in the past with good results.

Cheers

thanks jeff. i'll do that. does rennsport sell the sealing rings also? i read that there are some graphite rings that work better than the metal ones.
also, can the through bolt o-rings be changed without splitting the case? i would like to change these out since i'm there.
i need to get an engraver so i can mark the jugs before sending them out.
should i re-ring the pistons? i did not have a leakdown test done prior to teardown. is there a way to check them? like gap clearance or something?

Yes, Steve, can/will supply the 993 head gaskets for sealing.

Send your piston's to Steve as well and they can measure the whole set and prep the cylinders for new rings.

The through bolts o-rings could be done one at a time, remember to get the green viton ones for this.

Cheers

For my rebuild I found a set of used low mileage P&Cs, and then I had Steve at rennsport machine the heads for the sealing rings.
You could ask on the classifieds or look on ebay.

Kirk
