It's starting to look like an engine again...
 

Got the P's and C's on today without any issues. I loaded the pistons in the cyls first, then installed the assemblies onto the rods. I put the RH circlip on the pistons first, so installing #1-3 and then #6-4 worked pretty well. Using my original Mahles helped, as I didn't have to deal with the dreaded JE circlips.

I should say no issues, other than the fact I was working sequentially with the numbered P's and C's, and ended up putting the #4 setup on the #6 rod. I caught it right after putting the circlip on (the one that snagged my idex finger-gotta draw blood to make it fun!). Probably wouldn't make any difference, but I'm too anal to have it outta place, so I took it off and put the #6 set in their rightful place.

I also put the inboard chain ramps in and notched out my sealing rings to clear the head studs, which was a little tedious. I'm travelling a bunch for the next week and a half, so hopefully I'll get the heads and towers on before the end of the month.

It really is nice getting some of the boxes of parts all over my work area used up, and seeing it evolve. :D

Looking good Ed! Can you post or send me a pic or two of the muffler in the background of the pics? Is it a flowmaster 80 series, and how loud is it?

Jeff, it is a FM. It's kind of loud, but not obnoxiously. It does sound very nice, and get lots of comments about the quality of the sound. I'll take a pic or two when I get back home, I won't be in my garage for about 11 days...

Thanks Ed for your reply. One last q: what made you finally decide on this particular lift? Are you of the opinion that there is little need to go under to the center of the car, if need to one can 1/2 squat as most of the work is on the rear, some on the front and all of the sides one can stand completley upright, no? Am I viewing/guessing this correctly? I have never in person seen one of these lifts but my aging back & body if quite intrigued here!!

I've had no need to work on the center of the 911. Everything I've ever needed to get to is at the front, back or perimenter. That said, my 928 has goodies down the middle, and there's enough clearance with the higher pads to pull the exhaus off.

The Bendpak has a couple of more stops than the harbor freight, and comes with 3 heights of lift pads. Plus, they ship quick, do a search on the long lead times for the HF units which are maybe $100 cheaper. Mine was $1400 delivered to my house on a lifgate.

My aging body and bad back love it!!
