Crankcase Vent , Necessary?

I have a 2.4 and was wondering if the OE rubber line coming from the Oil tank to the Back of the Factory Air Box is Necessary.. Im going to be putting K'N filters which wont allow for that hose. Is it ok for me to just Plug the HOLE on the Oil tank?
This will still leave one hose remaining .. from the Oil tank to the crankcase vent cover...

You will still need to vent the tank. Use a small "overflow" tank with a small K&N type of air filter.

What kind of tank do you mean? Why is it necessary?

Anyone who has K/N filters have a photo of what they've done?

Below is a picture of an engine supertec built, this was posted on another thread by henry schmidt it shows a similar thing described above where the oil breather is attached to a small tank that drains back to the crank case. I belive the part used is from a later 90's porsche henry may chime in with more details.

Jeff, where did you plumb in the oil return line? It seems to me that the vent line produces significant oil vapor from the tank, even though the tank itself is intended to act as an air/oil separator with a headspace above the oil level. I would expect that oil would condense in the vent and need to go somewhere, although Porsche's solution, at least on my '66 and '71, was to run the vapor to the air cleaner and then vent the liquid oil from the air cleaner overboard to that funny cylindrical thing with the rubber cap on the engine!

Komenda Fan.. Did you just Plug yours up? I still dont really see why it is Necessary.... but If I have to use something.. Whats the Least expensive Best looking thing I can do?

Your engine needs to be vented to atmosphere. If you plug the tank you will have positive case pressure at moderate to high rpms. Seals/gaskets start to blow out and the scavange side of the oil pump can cavitate.

John, the comming out the bottom is now a clear tube that runs verticaly back up the side of the tank. This way it can show me the how much oil is in can. So far, after only 350 miles, there is no oil in the can....

Cheers

GotaT, it might be hard to see, but mine runs to behind the 72 oil filter assembly and then back out to the skippy. I love it, because its light weight and easy to check visually. Plus, since my car was repainted ten years ago from Viper Green to Silverish, the lid is my only real link to Viper Green! Well, that and a few paint chips...

So Basically, All I really need is a Hose coming out of the tank with a Filter of Any sort and a Tank to catch Any Oil that the Filter would not.... Right?
There must be some sort of Generic Breather/Filter that could be fitted in an Discrete Place..

i used a section of washing machine discharge line from Home Depot and the K&N breather. The stock hose bends are perfect. The engine is tight so no noticable fumes and no oil fume discharge layer in compartment. The high angle returns oil droplets. It may not be track legal in some areas of the US.
