1990 C2 cylinder base gaskets

i took my p/c's off and the base seal rings are completely dried and hard.
the concept of using rubber for those seals just doesn't make much sense to me. i will use viton seals when i put it back together. but i have a question.
has anyone used some sort of copper sealing ring at the base of the 3.6 cylinders? like the ones used in the earlier engines.
logically thinking (to me at least), copper would make a much better seal and hold up to heat much better than rubber.

I use the C2 turbo 3.3 cylinders on my 85 930 3.3l. I use the base gaskets and the viton seals on the cylinder bores. But I only use the copper base gaskets to keep my deck height in spec. If you include copper gaskets, your deck height is going to be thrown off. Not advised.
