Competent/professional machine shops?

Hello all!

Does anyone know of a very accurate/competent machine shop where I could get some 930 head work done in AL, GA, FL ?

Also, please post your machine shops here with recommendations 1-10!

Thanks!
munchovie.

you may have more than a standard vanilla situation.. you might consider some shops in other states... e.g. J.Walker / Henry / etc.

Hoffman Automotive Machine - www.haminc.biz

He does all my personal head work and a bunch for the 356s and 914s for various customers of mine. He can do 911 work and is in GA. His work is second to none and right up there in my trust of his work compared to Ollies or Competition Engineering, both of which are excellent west coast choices along with the aforementioned EBS Racing.

Thanks Charles, This guy is just a few hours away from me, and I did not even know he was there... I have never heard of him, but at least its another source to look at....

I don't know where you are located, since you do not list it, but I guess you are in the south east somewhere. But, many folks from around NA send their stuff to the fellow I use here in BC. Hayward Performance, great work, great prices......

Cheers

+3 on JB racing

I sent mine to EBS, but they are more of a "contractor" and source out their work. Pretty sure they sent it to Mike at JB racing b/c when I did have an issue they referred me to him.

EBS moved to a new location and i'm pretty sure their machine shop is now in house.

Allow me to comment - my heads from EBS arrived yesterday, so this is recent & relevant.

When shopping my machine work, I asked EBS offhand during the discussion 'so your shop work is all in house eh' and got 'yep yep all in house'. They got the job after all my research. Needed mag case work, heads overhauled, piston/cylinder measurement, etc. Sent it all out, waited. Get a call back and they tell me "OK your case is at our shop 30 miles away, but he can't do the case due to some broken equipment so we're sending it to our other guy".

So much for everything in-house. When I mildly called them out on this, they said their main shop works pretty much exclusively for them and is essentially 'in house' for practical purposes. Fair enough.

Then later I get a call that their secondary guy is closing his doors at the end of this month and my case won't get done in time. They apologize and after consulting me regarding options, they send it off to Mike Bruns at JB Racing (their recommendation, I was only dimly aware of them prior to this). I was curious about their future for case work - since their current advertisement in Excellence indicates case services. They honestly admitted they are not sure where they stand.

This is all just FYI - and NOT A RANT. I'm very pleased overall with my EBS experience. One major reason they got my business: over the last few years, I have called them with small orders - as low as $25, none over $200. Sometimes I've just called to consult on engine parts/options and ended up ordering nothing. Every time, they've been extremely friendly and taken their time with me. That kind of customer service deserves a big order.

BTW - the build sheet I got back with my EBS heads exceeds any documentation I've received for any machine work, EVER.

BTW2 - usually my EBS orders are accompanied by stickers in the box. This time I got a really nice hat! Must be the $$$ order...I'm now wondering how much I have to spend to find hookers'n'coke in the box.
