She is soooo close.....I can almost feel her!
I got my intake assembly finished today, and back on. What a bunch of wires, plumbing, etc....makes you long for the old days. But, the good news is, I only had a 1/2 box of parts left over.
![]() An admission of guilt: I only put the dizzy cap on and stuck the plug wires in the holes. Tomorrow, the plugs go in, and the wires are on for good. Then, the sheetmetal and the crank sensors, and the oil breather hoses and I'm pretty much done. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Rude awakening: Since I'll be twin plugging next year, can someone confirm that I'll need to put some holes on either corner of the front tin for the bottom plug wires? What size is common? I shoulda thought of this BEFORE powder coating..... ![]() Lastly, I'm leaving a BIG carbon footprint today; bought 1 case of Brad Penn 30W break-in oil and two cases of their 20W-50 for the first two fills. $170 lighter in the wallet, not to mention 3 filters. ![]()

Looking good Ed, and good call on the Brad-Penn. I was finally able to get my rebuild fired up just last week. There was no other feeling than when she finally turned over.

964 3.6l twin plug motor uses an oval hole and gasket on the 3 plug wires to go through the sheet metal. I will post some pics tomorrow, but the cross sections of the hole are 59x30mm.

Thanks, I'd appreciate the pics. After looking at this closer, I think that it makes sense to put the holes outboard of the chain cases, which would mean the holes would go in the side tins, not the rear piece I had in the pic above. In measuring the surface area available, it seems like a 1 1/2" or ~40mm hole saw may do the trick. Your oval measurements are in the ballpark.

The fuel rails and other hardware you had plated really turned out well. It looks fantastic.

I have individual holes in the sheet metal that flanks the valve covers, with grommets protecting the wires from the metal. See pics.

Here you go. The hole is toward the distributor end of the engine.
Sorry I have problem uploading photos directly to the forum from my dial-up connection. http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b295/NoEardGoat/P1010231.jpg http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b295/NoEardGoat/P1010232.jpg JP911: Where did you get the bracket that holds the spark plug tubes against the engine? Those are slick. I would love to use them when I install my motor.

Thanks for the pics.
I know Supertec sells the lower plug wire retainers, as do some other vendors. Here's what I ended up doing today: ![]() ![]()
