Race gas

My rebuild this winter includes some Mahle 10.4:1 pistons. The motor is single plug and I'm gonna need race gas. So, what octane. I'm looking at Sunoco 100 unleaded.....good enuff? Sunoco 104 which may be leaded?

Sunoco 100 is fine; Sunoco 104 is also good stuff,.....both are unleaded.

Twin-plug that thing!!!!!

It pays big dividends in torque & throttle response. :)

Who.... me the CSOB?
The thing is a black hole in a parking lot........
Between the rebuild & an LSD, I'm tapped out.

Is the improvement in torque and throttle response a function of the twin plug or the higher compression?

Both!!!!!

Two flame fronts and almost half the necessary ignition advance make a more efficient engine.

Added compression makes more torque, too.

Aside from the initial $$$, there is nothing bad about it and given the cost of $7-8/gallon race fuel, its a good investment.

For JP's motor, will the tuning for race gas be significantly different than pump gas give that we are running 10.4:1 and single plug.

At least get the heads drilled for twin plugs, only a few hundred dollars. Then down the road you can add the ignition set-up to take advantage of it.

The long block is together and it ain't coming apart......well, unless it does self disassembly.

Not appreciably,...........

What camshafts are you running? and in what size engine? What octane pump gas do you have up there?

I love the Sunoco 100 GT.

Solex cams. in a 2.7L. a very good Autocross cam, I've found. It's wide power band is just the ticket. Mahle P/Cs @ 10.4:1. Our pump premium is 93.
It's not as pretty as the good Mr. Cramer's. ....

Another. One of the cams was NOS in the original package!
The other had been "touched up" by Web cams.
Note the plugged centeroiler passages. .....:Dhttp://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1196910462.jpg
