Barrel Nut Thread Depth
Just ordered Barrel nuts from Pelican to replace hex nuts from previous owners installation on heat exchangers. What is the internal thread depth (usable) of the Pelican barrel nut? I have 31mm of stud protruding on my 3.6 heads (repowering from a 3.2). The exhaust flanges are thin; it looks like the barrel nuts will bottom out.
I want to fabricate spacers between the exhaust flanges and heads anyway so the heater boxes will clear the cam oil galleries. What is the internal thread depth (usable) of the Pelican barrel nut? |
I know this is old, but does any know the answer to this?

What engine doe you have? What exhaust are you using? When I put a 3.2 in my 73.5 I had to make shims for the SSI's I had since the 3.2 is designed for a thicker exhaust flange than the 73 engine.

Ed,
Did you use the "thin flange" SSIs? I'm not actually using the barrel nuts for the heat exchangers. I just needed them in a M8 x 1.25 thread. I could not find these from any of my usual fastener vendors. I've purchased them from our host, so I'll reply here when I receive them. Tim K |
I think people figured Stone would figure this out for himself when his nuts arrived.
Like you will. Me, I don't like barrel nuts, and there are always substitutes like reduced wrench size nuts (flange nuts) where you don't have to have the stud length just right. |
