Hi,
I'm new to these forums but I have ordered parts from Pelican parts in the past, however its been a while.
I've owned my 1975 911S for over 10 years now and have done all the maintenance my self, with the help of my brother who just happens to be a mechanic.
I have a couple of questions about issues I have with my car that I have not been able to figure out.
1) The car takes about 5+ minutes to warm up which seems a bit long to me.
2) The rear defroster doesn't work and I haven't been able to track down the circuit for it.
3) The gas gage meter is starting to stick.

If anyone can has info or can point me to info on any of those three topics listed above it would be much appreciated. Thanks!

I usually can't get the oil temp. to get to half way to the first mark in 6 miles in the morning on surface streets. That's for an 89 3.2. Others know much more about your car... but not warming the oil up in 5 minutes doesn't sound unusual. If you mean you can't get hot air from the "heater" in 5 minutes that's different question.

When I said warm up I meant unless I use the hand accelerator or rev the engine to keep the RPMs up, the car will die. If I'm in a hurry to get somewhere its a pain having to let the clutch out and rev the engine at stop signs, to keep it from dieing. Once the engine warms up, usually after 5 minutes, everything is fine.

Sounds to me like you need to adjust the idle mixture. There's a small hole in the top of the CIS that you put an allen wrench to adjust it, but it's been 7 years since I've adjusted a CIS, so I don't remember which way to turn for rich or lean, or what size the allen is. I do remember using a long T handled allen for it though.

That could be, I have adjusted the idle rate, which is supposed to be around 900rpm, I bumped it up to 1100 and that helped a some. I'll discuss adjusting the idle mixture with my brother the next time I see him. Thanks for the tip.

You may have small air leaks that are starting to get worse. Richening the mixture could be a short term solution for when it's cold - but you'll be running rich all the time when it's warm. It's too rich when you come to a stop and the RPM dips below idle then recovers.

My car takes about 60 seconds of driving before it acts fairly normal. The hand throttle is used for about 5 minutes or more. All the hand throttle is doing is raising the idle - the cold start system is automatic. As long as the engine is cold, you will be getting a slightly richer mixture automatically. Don't be afraid to use the hand throttle - it certainly won't hurt anything.

Folks over on the 911 Technical Forum can help you with adjusting and diagnosing your fuel injection. I wouldn't recommend changing anything until you know a little more about what to do, and how much to do it.
