Any last recommendations before rebuild is done!

Hey M8s!

I'm rebuilding my 2.2 T engine and its been quite a journey so far, enjoyed every step of the rebuild, etc....

a part of my project was to follow a better spec engine so the plans begin with this since the engine was not bad at all, just old and forgotten by the PO but still with a bit of love anything could be done!

My current project is!!!

Service:
--> Tranny
--> Starter
--> Brakes
--> Suspension, E.R. Bushings all the way

Add:
--> E spec camshafts (thanks to John D. for the advice about the E cams) not yet bought
--> Higher CR pistons (not sure but I think E spec as well) not yet bought
--> Do some tricky things with the Zenith Carbs, I know they are not the best option but still it is a challenge to me!)
--> Torsion Bars, I think 21, 27/28
--> Maybe! Sway bars
--> Wevo Coupler and WM SSK ( Thanks to John Cramer advice )

Surprises when I bought:
--> Carrera Chain Tensioner Update done(found out last week)
--> S suspension, 3.5 spacing with konis

Crossroad:
--> Oil bypass mod, I don't know about this since is not a regular track car, just a twice a year track day at most...
--> I've read about SC oil pump (John Cramer experience) but I haven't found errors about original pumps whatsoever
--> Al Flywheel should be the one! I've tried before but don't know if it is worth to have

Some pics of the beginning! thanks all of you guys, every post teach a lot and motivate to keep doing it :rolleyes:

The moving!

Cool things I've found, the sizes of the cams are diff in both I don't know why, EVERY part that comes out of the engine has the stamps of the car, soooo the 56 k miles are totally original but I have a couple questions!

The number of my cams: 901 105 133 0R 'AE' and 'O' I think the cams belong to the engine (T) just to know a bit more....
The pistons, how bad they are?

A few notes:

--> Cylinders came out PERFECT so they will be installed with the new higher CR pistons

--> the Crank OMG PERFECT as well

--> the engine is unmolested but needed a huuuuuuuge help because the PO was not the kindest person with my 911.

Still in time for some new advices ;)

Oil bypass is a nice mod but I don't think you need it if you are keeping basically a stock 2.2 engine. If you use a newer (SC) oil pump then you must do the bypass mod (they go together). You don't need an aluminum flywheel. The stock flywheel is plenty light and you have an aluminum pressure plate.

I'm just having one question.. according to the information my pistons should be cast iron... since it is a T model... but the weight and look says otherwise, mainly the weight.. Then I'm looking information about them. What do you think they look like?

See ya M8s

Your cylinders look like Biral cylinders. An aluminum outer casting with a press-fit iron liner. Also, your pistons look more aggressively domed than 2.2T pistons - they may be 'E' pistons. Get the numbers from underneath the piston domes and do a search on them here to confirm - if you don't find anything, ask here, and someone can probably decode.

Try looking up your cam numbers before buying new ones, they may have been changed also. If they decode as 'T' cams, it still might be worth putting a dial indicator on them and measuring them to see if they weren't altered to another profile.

jasam, do a quick check with a magnet on your pistons. If they are ferrous, the magnet will stick, if they are the alloy pistons, the magnet won't stick. They look like alloy pistons to me. Good luck!! Tony.

The measure of the cams are different from each other... you have the same on each cam but together are too different t(lobes are bigger or smaller depending on the cam :S)... I'm supposed that is normal wear so.. I'll be ordering E cam profile from Dr. Cams....

I'm seriously considering the ST noob look alike :P the sporto is original as hell with some dumb changes that I haven't completed such as the H4s, but since I would upgrade most of this car I was wondering what if I just add flares in the rear to accept 15x8 wheels and put the side porsche scripts .. Even I have to do again the 2 battery split... that's why I have the feeling that I want a wilder car...

Any changes I'll keep you posted.. The S calipers will be rebuilt as well as the A arms of the suspension, etc etc... I was thinking about powder coat what do you think of that?

Thanks for your time
