Need some advice 2.4T engine rebuild

Hello
im in process of rebuilding a 72y 2.4T engine.
It is a matching numbers so i will use that. Is it wise do leave it all original and use only necessary upgrades (tensioners...) or can i upgrade also the performance without loosing the original value of the car?
I will get a needed parts list soon from the machine shop.
Car will be used as a sunday driver, no rallying.
It has installed Weber carbs (was MFI).
Any tips?

I just did my 2.4 w/ Webers and would recommend making some Engine upgrades while you're there. It'll be worth it in the long run.. Others may say that w/ a matching #'s car to Leave it STOCK. Its really up to you.

Definite upgrades would be Carrera fed oil lines w/ hydraulic tensioners.

I would personally consider a larger cam and accomodating pistons for more power. . but decide where you would like your power band to be and talk to others who've crossed this bridge. As you mentioned its Not a track car, you wont necessarily want more power at the top of the RPM range. I hope this helps out...

..."it wont cost That much More"... "and while you're there".... These have been my favorite phrases while doing my rebuild...

Harri-- I used to own an original, numbers matching T. The paint was also original...not original "color"..."original paint" (sorry, I tend to get on my soapbox about this). As far as T mechanicals go, I found it's not too big a deal to upgrade. But, that said, MFI will make a difference in value, so keep the MFI if you can. My car is now owned by Pelican member 'daepp'.

I would try to source the MFI system. I would also consider putting in some E cams. E cams with the higher compression pistons will give one heck of an engine. It will go like stink from idle to redline.

Good luck and have fun!
