Hydraulic Chain Tensioner upgrade

How can I tell if the Hydraulic chain tensioner upgrade has been completed?
Do I need to take off the cover to the chain tensioner area or is the new cover plate different enough to tell that the upgrade has been completed?

I have just purchased a 81 SC Targa.

I believe you will see a "T" in the oil lines to each head about half way between the block and the head. There should be a metal tube off the "T" that goes to the chain cover and is secured with a banjo bolt on the front of the chain cover/

First of all. Thanks to Dave, it's his photo.

If you look carefully at the timing covers, you'll see a small oil line droping down and going into the cover. Without the upgrade this (tee) in the oil line wouldn't be there. Hope this helps.

Thank for this photo - very helpful. Looks like the tensioner upgrade kit is readily available. Any thoughts out there in terms of whether the upgrade is a project for a handy weekend warrior or should it be handled professionally. I know what's coming -- how handy?? Thanks all.

It is not difficult and you can do it, just do a search here.
