Need Confirmation on Ring End Gaps

I am in the process of installing new JE 85mm (84.92 actual) pistons with JE Proseal rings into my cylinders that were bored to 85mm. In checking the ring end gap I am finding that the first ring is tight at .12-.15mm and the second ring is tighter at .10mm. All measurements taken at room temp.

My Porsche Technical Spec booklet indicates .15-.45mm and the JE paperwork (vaguely) states .15 up to .17mm.

I am thinking they are made this way to facilitate filing for a precise fit in each cylinder so I am prepared to do this. But, before I start this process, I'd like a little backup from the experts regarding the need to file the rings and what the target end gap should be for each ring.

Thanks!

Go with the piston ring (J.E.'s) mfg.'s suggestion.

Most aftermarket/custom rings ARE tight/oversize and are meant to be filed to have a custom fit.

You will be comfortable afterwords, knowing they are all in proper spec.
