Installation of Speedi-Sleeves
I have a 1974 Carrera with a 2.7S engine that has lots and lots of running time, all of it on the track for the last 20 years. The engine has been totally rebuilt three times and the top end has been redone several more times. The top end is currently fresh. I have been unable to get the crankshaft seals on both ends to stop leaking oil. There is a groove in the crankshaft where the seals ride.
I was able to get speedi-sleeves from Stoddards which are used to go over the shaft to provide a good seating surface for the seal. Has anyone used these sleeves? Are there any special tips for installing these sleeves? I will be installing them soon. TIA for any info.

I have used that type of sleeve in the past, but I am not sure if they were the Speedy-Sleeve brand. I have used them on vehicles other than a Porsche. I think that I saw at the Speedy-Sleeve website, that they come with an installation tool. Some of the ones that I have used had an outside shoulder, and some did not, I was able to use various sized 3/4" drive sockets for the "tool" to press the sleeve on to the journal that had the wear grooves. Some of them had the tool, and others did not, but I used one of my shop vises to press the sleeves on some, others I had to use a press. The last one I installed was about 5yrs ago now, and it is still drip free. Also, the ones that I have used, came with some sealant, sort of like Loc-Tite. it is very similar to pressing a bearing on a shaft, or pressing in or out u-joints. I don't think that you should have any trouble, if you have a press, or a good vise handy. Good luck!! Tony.
