2.7 rebuild
Wayne
Well I think I'm going to stick with my 2.7 rather than go the 3.0L route. I your book you don't quote any HP figures for the 2.7 engines. What do you thing I can get with 9.5 J&E pistons, webers, some head work and european headers into a 2in/2out M&K muffler? I've heard of several different cam choices. What would you recommend for a street/autox/track application hoping for 220-230HP in a 2200 lb car? Kent Olsen 72T coupe |
Need more input...carbs ,cis , F.I. Turbo???????/

Mod S cams with aftermarket valve springs or Solex cams with stock valve springs. 36mm ports, 230 HP with either one.

Kent,
There is a decent thread, running right now on the technical forum, regarding rebuilding 2.7's for streetable power. A lot of discussion regarding cam choices, etc. The combo that you are mentioning. (2.7 with Webers, headers, 9.5:1 JE's, etc.) is a popular combo. I have this combo with E-cams currently installed in my 77S. Goes good and makes very nice noises. There are a couple of other engines shown, a great video w/sound and a dyno sheet showing 240hp with a similar setup. Seems high, but since the 2.7RS was spec'd at 210HP at 8.5:1, I guess a high-comp version should be somewhat higher. I think that waynes book was quoting 220-230 for the 2.7RS high comp recipe and that's what I was hoping/shooting for. Good luck with your project. Go check out that link. |

Here is a video of my 76 911s with webers, J&E 9.5:1 cr with dc40 cams with all the upgrades done to the case and a M&K exhaust

How did you catch and stay with that Carrera S, who was driving that?? Was that when your throttle was only opening 3/4 the way??

what spark plugs would you use in such a motor?

could you share the specific # and brand?

I started with the stock plug and ran it for a 100 mi and checked the color. Alittle dark but it should of been since I was running a little rich. After the engine was broke in and different jets I went to the next heat range cooler and that seamed to burn the best, a light brown. But a lot of it depends on your jetting and carb setup. I use NGK but right off hand I don't know the number is. This motor that I built is just mildly modified. HP, I don't know but one thing I can tell you it made the car fun to drive no lack of power!

I'm a big fan of the Solex grind for a 2.7L with carbs.
With 9.7:1 compression, I started with NGK BP7es but switched to BP6 s which didn't foul as often.....I run the motor rich. I'll get some chassis dnyo numbers off this latest rebuild only because it's going on one for break-in......and an AF reading. |

I resemble that comment except I only take my coffee black and the blue tooth is for street use only.
