OH NO!!! Pitting @ cylinder top......
Please tell me I will be able to use this cylinder its just a small pit and the only one out of 6....AND its a 2.7 with the spring head gasket.

Not what you want to hear but I wouldn't use it, its not going to heal up. So how does the head look? If its ok to use then I just threw out a lot of good cylinders. Maybe others have a way to fix it?
|
No way I'd use that. Looks like a direct path has already been cut to atmosphere, or one is about 90% of the way there. Pulled head stud? Detonation?

I have a couple of good 90 mm Nikasil cyls.....height group 6 IIRC.
|
OK so its a goner......I thought with the sealing ring it'd be OK the motor was in good shape after 1000 miles and the ring/head did'nt look like there was leaking. Its a multi engine part whore so I have many a mismatched part in here. How would I know what height group I need? I have 6 cylinders from another motor How would I know if they are of the same height group?
|
Height groups are marked on the side. Or you could measure with a surface plate and a height gauge and test indicator.
Cylinders can be surface ground to match the heights but it might be easier to buy a used cylinder from the same height group. Ask Tom Butler (Tom 1394Racing) if he has one, he probably does. |
I just used a mic on the cylinder height of what I have now and the 'spare set' and it was right on the same so....I guess I am good to go.
Thanks everyone Josh |
The height group was stamp marked on mine with a number (5 or 6) inside of a triangle.

I need to hear rationale as to why welding it up, turning the cylinder to spec, reboring and replating won't work...I assume it's more expensive than it's worth?
|
Well I know for sure that this motor wont be seeing that treatment...its a parts bag as it is and my learning experience-----I will destroy you engine.........:-) realisticlly it'll get me through a couple years of track days till dead......I want a Henry motor one day.......maybe my 2.4 with the sweet lil 2.2 S pistons on my early 7R case will be sent to him for traetment afta afta
