Quick 3.0 top end question
Im getting ready to take the top end apart to replace the 1 broken head stud and all the lower head studs. My question is can the cam housing and heads come off as a unit or do i have to take it all apart? everything is clean and no need for attention as far as i know the car has 90K.
TIA -Jeff

I can also leave the cam and rockers in also correct. I have Wayne's book but it explains how to take it all apart during tear down.
I'm assuming i just back the rocker screws out as far as they can go so i have clearance for the valves not to touch the piston, remove chain boxes, then the heads/cam housing. Sound good? Sorry if i sound Newbish, Its because i am..... ![]() ![]()

You will have to pull the chain boxes if you leave the cam in. I think you can leave the boxes if you pull the cam? but since your doing lower studs just get them out of the way.

It's a little tricky getting the cam ends around the chains but you can leave the cams and rockers in. Take notes on which way the chain slippers go and how to install in the right way so you don't trap the chain and have to remove the slipper again. I'd buy a couple of new slippers because the clips tend to break on the old ones.
