Has anyone had experience with this rebuilder?
|
They love to charge big bucks for rare parts, but if the market will pay...
Besides that I have never heard a complaint. Cheers |
Thanks for the reply. Does anyone have experience with their rebuilt or used engines? I am looking for a replacement for the engine in an 89 C4. The original engine suffered from compression leaks around the heads. It was dis-assembled by a Porsche dealer, who wanted $18,500 for a complete rebuild. Since the car seems to be worth $20k or less, the owner (a friend of mine) took the car and the engine back. To their credit the dealer didn't charge for the tear down. In briefly looking at the engine, I saw a couple of broken head studs, which may have been the cause of the problem. The engine has about 110K mles on it.
The owner has no mechanical experience and I don't have time to do it or experience on 911 engines to rebuild it. This seems to leave us with the options of finding a good shop locally to do the headwork, and perhaps replace the rings and re-assemble the engine or find a used/rebuilt engine. We are located in Beaufort, SC, and do have a reliable shop in Charleston, SC that will give us an estimate. I would still like to know if there is a reliable source of rebuilt or used engines out there. After reading the horror stories about MM, I am naturally a little gun-shy |

That also is a 3.2 engine and if yours is a C4 it should have a 3.6 964 based engine.

Good, BTW I have done business with them on many occasions and all was good, an example he shipped in a 2.0 alum case for another cust. to do some machine work via Fed X, he missed an issue with the condition and made it right and took care of the shipping Ca. to Fla. twice !

Give Karl at European Road and Race in Charleston a call. Great shop!

Many of the rebuilt engines coming from MS Road Race are built by a former engine builder from Andial. He now works for a very reputable organization building Porsche engines and moonlights for MSroadrace. Not sure if he is the only person who builds engines for them, but he handles quite a few. If you're interested in a particular engine from them, I would call the owner and ask him who built it.

I used to live about 5 minutes from them. I no longer do, but I still live pretty close. I have used them a few times. I was not very impressed with their location and or shop. That does not mean their engines are not good. I have no personal experience with motors from them but when I was building my car I did use them to purchase some hard to find early 911 parts. Not a "great experience" but not a bad one either.
Not sur eif that helps any.. LOL.. |
I have bought some parts from them when I couldn't find them anywhere else in the US. They shipped quickly for me, but no idea on their engines. They are a bit expensive on some of their parts, but have alot of stock.
