Options for Euro '82 SC 3.0L engine with 'hosed' pistons and cylinders

Got a phone call from my top-end engine rebuilder late this afternoon having having started to disassemble my engine.

Hooray - pistons and cylinders all knackered. Horrendous pics to follow once I get them.

Engine had been run with worn rings which had worn the tops of the cylinders and then simply re-ringed As a result the Nikasil has worn completely through and into the cylinder wall. That'll explain the gallons of oil she was consuming at the end then ! Was still making 216bhp though.

So...what now ?

Obviously need new Ps & Cs but from where ? JE/Mahle/standard ? I have access to a good used set of 3.2 cylinders (includes pistons but I understand I can't use them in my SC) Maybe a displacement increase ?

Any suggestions (other than a 3.2/3.6 swap ) gratefully received ( bearing in mind that money is not a strong point at the moment.) Must not involve a need for twin plugging or CIS removal though.

Oh and my other camshaft is 'shafted' too (having replaced the other one not too long ago)

Ho hum.

I'm currently into rebuilding my 82 SC. I'm toying with putting out the cash for the Mahle 3.0 to 3.2 conversion, but I would have to switch to a carb or mech fuel injection sicne the CIS versions are hard to find. What year did you get your 3.2 p&cs from? I think only the stud placement would be an issue for you. If they are ausils I would re-think the idea. If you have JE from more recent years it may work. By the way I'm in CA and smog testing limits my abilities.

If you can get over the stigma of used parts, you can find in-spec pistons and cylinders from your fellow Pelicanites. Last year I bought a set of used nickasil sc pistons and cylinders from tom1394racing that I am currently running in my car at 1/4 the price of new. Place a want ad in the classifieds and you will probably locate a set within a day or so.
