911 T rebuild

I have spent a little time looking around this site, wow. I am also sure many of you have discussed my question repeatedly. BUT

1971 911 E 2.2 stock and now apart for a complete rebuild. I have read the book on the project Rebuilding and Modifying your 911,and he has two suggestions or recommendations. the S motor and the higher compression 2.4 it seems
My question is has anyone on the list done one or the other?
How did it turn out and would you do anything different
Also what does the collective wisdom of the forum say? Other than get a 3.0 or some other hot rod up grade. this is a very nice solid car with very good paint, matching numbers etc and I want not do the motor swap. Well I do but will not do it!
Thanks in advance.
RP

From what I gather you have a 911T and would like to improve the performance of your engine to E or S spec. Correct?

IMHO, I would say that you can't reduce your cars value by making performance upgrades whilst using the correct engine number.

Without researching, I think T's had Biral cylinders and if you want to upgrade performance, you will want to get some new P&Cs. Depending on your "use" of the vehicle, most folks would agree that E spec engine is good for general street performance. If you primarily track the car then high RPM "S" spec engine is the way to go.

As far as 2.4 vs. 2.2 goes.....Increase displacement always adds more torque but in this case, I'm not sure it adds a noticeable difference and most early guys would agree that a keeping a 2.2 maintains value.

If it were me & I liked the performance of my current setup but wanted to "kick it up a notch", I would do upgrade pistons, cylinders, & cams to E spec.

BTW, it is required that you post pictures of your car.

Actually, all 911Ts used cast-iron cylinders, which have a thermal limit that makes them unsuitable for high-power applications.
