motor meister motor advise
Hi I am restoring a 1967 porsche 912 and have ordered a 911 2.0 motor from mm. I get the feeling some of you have an opinion about mm. I would like to know what you guys think and advise you might have about a daily driver motor mods for a 2.0. cam. port polish, case savers, elecronic ignition, raise compression ect
Thanks Jerry |

If this is not a joke or a troll to get comments....I suggest you do a search on MM.
The shear number of bad reports on them indicate a problem in their work. Be warned...you are entering very dangerous territory. Bob

Jerry, please search the forums under the name "motor meister" for more information about this subject, and for more information about early 2,0 liter engines, search here with the term "901/05". There is a wealth of information that has been contributed on these topics.

Jerry,
There are a number of documented, umm, experiences on MM here. A few of my customers have had similar "experiences." Once you've done a search and read about it, I would make a decision about how to proceed... Have you paid for this engine up front?

Jerry, cancel your order until after you do your research. Send them nothing and accept no deliveries. If you haven't read this thread, don't ignore:

I paid 7k, to get hosed around, took about 6 months, and what I got back was horrible, head studs smashed into cylinder bores from lousy packing job, My rods came back with mismatched caps, , and they werent the rods that I sent to them. I think that most of the parts I got back were not my own, plus bunches of little stuff missing. I got a great bs line from good ole Roy though. Cost me another couple grand to sort it out. Thank god I assembled this motor myself, or I dont imagine it would have made one weekend at the track. Use this board, some of the best engine builders around are members here. I have had great service from ebs, and ollies, and have heard nothing but good about Henry Schmidt, and John Walker on this site. I have beenin the autobisness for about 18 years, and built a bunch of motors, ( this was my first Porsche), and by far I got the poorest service, and yanking around from MM. If they wouldnt have been on the other coast, I probably would have some legal troubles , as I was pissed, and probably would have driven there and went postal.

I think that I gave them a nice deposit to start the job, and after no reply for months, I was just begging them to send my stuff back, and they could keep the deposit, I felt the hosing I was about to recieve brewing. I begged on a weekly basis, and could not get my stuff back. I think the bottom line is that they are just shady buisnessmen.

Jerry, money is always a concern, but short-changing yourself on a 911 rebuild is only going to mean you'll spend more in the long run.
Take the time to read up here, there are a lot of great guys with good advice. If you have any mechanical skills, don't overlook the DIY option. I consider myself average in skills, but was able to pull off a rebuild last year, and many other went down the same path before me, so there is a ton of experience and experiences here. A good investment is Wayne's book on rebuilds. It may not be the end-all for answers and the proper way to do things, but it is pretty darned good, and if nothing else, will make you a better consumer if you hire someone else to build the motor for you.

My biggest problem is I don't have a core. My car came with a VW motor. It's not a porsche with out a porsche motor I wll just have to see what happens. thanks

I hope that by that, you don't mean to say you'll 'wait to see what happens' in actually going forward with MM. Don't make that mistake. A Porsche isn't a Porsche when its engine is built by MM. Stick with the VW until you can figure something else out.

on the earlySregistry site, I've seen nice low mileage rebuilt T motors for half of what even mm will charge for their 'rebuilds'.
Just a thought...
