3.6 thru-bolt washers and o-rings

Having just finishing assembling a 3.6 short block I was wondering if there was any consensus among the professional engine builders as to the method of assembly for the 3.6 style thru-bolts and o-rings. With the earlier thru-bolts and chamfered washers I have always used silicone as a lubricant & sealant for the o-ring and that is what I did with the 3.6. I suspect Porsche changed the design for the thru-bolts for the 3.6 so as not to have interference problems with the cylinder.
