Convert 993 motor to solid rockers

Guys,

What is involved in converting 993 to solid rockers. I am thinking of building a HP 3.8 or 3.9 with a bigger cam and think that solid rockers are probably the way to go.

Never done this and admit to not being all that familiar with the 993 valve train.

Cheers

Jeff,
A friend of mine just did this to his 993... I believe he used factory RS rockers and "backdate" the cam gear so you can accurately set cam timing.

Hi Jeff,

I also looked into this and I think if you are doing a LOT of track work its a standard upgrade but if its just a few times a year I dont think its worth while.

If you plan to go with more aggressive cams than the 993 supersports then I am not 100% sure but I think solid lifters would be needed. But at that point if you go with more aggressive cams then the supersports its to make HP above 7000rpm then your gonna need aftermarket rods ect.. ect... its never ending

I remember Bill V saying that the 996 GT3 still use hydraulic so they cant be that bad.

Thanks guys,

The motor would have ITB's so I would like to run a fairly aggressive cam. Basically I am looking at making a stronger version of my 3.4......

Cheers

Jeff, I guess you going to built 3.8 or 4.0 liter ITB solid rockers, hot cam in air cool flat 6, in n/a form, if this come true this will be the ultimate air cool n/a engine .

Thanks Steve!

You nailed it, I think 3.8 or maybe 3.9, we will see. Then I just need to figure out what to do with the 3.4....

Cheers

If you run any cam more aggressive than a stock RS then you will need the mechanical rockers.
